Procedure: preparing the workstation for disassembly To prepare the workstation for component installation: Step Action Power down the workstation. Disconnect power from the workstation. Open the access cover. References Your workstation documentation includes instructions for disassembling and preparing the workstation for installation.
- Page 4 Step 2—Installing the 8-port SAS RAID controller card Introduction This section describes how to install the 8-port SAS RAID controller card. Procedure: installing the 8-port SAS RAID controller card To install the card: Step Action Release the PCI retainer levers by first pressing down on them and then out (1), and remove the applicable PCI slot cover (2).
- Page 5 Step Action Attach the SAS adapter supplied with the HP workstation SAS hard drive to the data connector on the rear of the SAS hard drive. In preparation for cable connection, identify the 8-port controller card connectors. The LED cable connector (1), the internal data connector (2), and the external data connector (3) are shown in the following figure.
- Page 6 Step Action Attach one end of the hard drive activity LED cable to the 8-port SAS RAID controller card (1). Attach the other end of the hard drive activity LED cable to the hard drive LED activity connector on the system board (2). (An HP xw6000 series workstation system board is shown below for reference.) NOTE: See the service label on your workstation access panel to locate the hard drive activity LED connector on...
- Page 7 Step 3—Reassembling the workstation After installing the 8-port SAS RAID controller card, use the instructions in your workstation documentation to reassemble the workstation. Reassembly includes reinstalling the side access panel and restoring power to the workstation. Step 4—Loading and setting up driver software For instructions on loading and setting up the SAS drivers for use with your workstation, refer to the manufacturer’s documentation on the CD shipped with the 8-port SAS RAID controller card.
